UAE listed education group (Taaleem): record revenue, net profit down 22% — shareholders pay expansion's tuition first
Composite-board score: 6.5 · Where it is strong: Net cash flow, Tax friendliness · methodology
Taaleem Holdings (DFM) is this site's first listed education sample, and its numbers only make sense across two years. FY2024/25 was the beautiful year: revenue of AED 1,135.5M (+20.1%), a 28.0% EBITDA margin, net profit of AED 164.5M, a 14.5% net margin, 16,712 students in premium schools at 75.0% utilisation (12 premium schools plus 26 government-partnership schools). FY2025/26 was the instructive year: revenue rose another 15.6% to a record of about AED 1.3bn while net profit fell 22% to AED 127.2M — new-school ramp depreciation, financing costs and the acquired nursery platform (Kids First Group, 34 nurseries, enrolment down 6.6%, utilisation 72.6%, still contributing losses) all landed at once. Verdict: do, on conditions — the buy logic must be written correctly: what is being bought is Dubai's structural shortage of premium school places and the climb of utilisation from 75%, not an extrapolation of FY25's growth; the nursery platform turning profitable (guided from Q1 FY2025/26) is the first verification point, and if it fails, this entry is downgraded. Also stated plainly: this site does not treat an earnings yield (a P/E of about 15 implies about 6.6%) as a cash return, and Taaleem's cash dividend rate was not captured this round — not fabricating it is this entry's evidence discipline.
In short: four lines first

14.5%(Taaleem Holdings net margin (FY2024/25, audited basis))
Very hands-off (listed route)
If the FY26 profit decline extends into a second year (nurseries not turning, new-school ramps slower than guidance), the "expansion buys growth" logic fails — the verification points are explicit: Kids First's quarterly contribution and the group net margin's repair.
The numbers that matter
Why we think it makes money
Education is the other side of the Gulf population story: premium-school utilisation of only 75% means a quarter of built capacity is still available to ramp — growth from existing utilisation, requiring no new land, is the cleanest growth source an education operator has.
The two-year contrast is a complete expansion-cycle lesson: record revenue and a 22% profit decline in the same year print "who pays for growth first" in the open — understanding this statement is worth more than understanding any single high-growth year.
It pairs a second industry into this site's listed-operator species: healthcare (No. 57) and education together give both of the Gulf's great population exposures a filing-grade participation route.
How to actually get in
- Listed route: buy Taaleem shares through a broker with DFM access (subject to the stock's foreign-ownership limit). Direct school acquisition involves KHDA/ADEK licensing with no small foreign-investor channel; nursery exposure is available only indirectly through its Kids First platform.
What it costs, what it earns

How much work for you: Very hands-off (listed route)
- Expansion-phase profit shape: new schools (such as Harrow Dubai, opened 31 Aug 2026) ramp over two to three years with depreciation front-loaded and profit back-loaded — budget for continued earnings volatility while holding.
- Fee regulation: Dubai private-school fee adjustments sit inside the KHDA framework, so pricing is not a free variable — revenue growth must come from enrolment and utilisation, not unit price.
Basis: this site uses full-cost net returns only — income minus vacancy, management, maintenance, taxes and insurance, then financing interest, with entry costs in the denominator. See the methodology。

Risks: what could go wrong
What we have not verified yet
The following key figures have not yet been verified; the reason is noted for each item.
- Cash dividend rate: no DPS figure was captured this round and none is fabricated; compute any yield from the company's dividend announcements and the day's price before citing.
- One set of 9M FY2025/26 figures (revenue AED 1,166.2M, net profit AED 283.2M) is superficially inconsistent with the full-year audited basis: this site uses full-year figures only, with interim bases to be verified against formal announcements.
FAQ
- Record revenue with falling profit — is this growth or decline?
- It is growth under expansion: the profit decline decomposes into new-school depreciation plus nursery consolidation losses, not core deterioration (revenue and enrolment are both rising). The judgment standard sits at the verification points: nursery turnaround and rising utilisation — deliver at least one and the logic holds; deliver neither and it is decline. Entries on this site with stated verification points should be tracked by the points, not by the narrative.
- Why are the nurseries singled out?
- Because they are simultaneously the growth story and the loss source: 34 nurseries were consolidated while enrolment was falling 6.6% at 72.6% utilisation, and Taaleem bought network and licences whose repair is operational work. Early-years education has a precedent elsewhere on this site (the tenant event in the Australian childcare entry, No. 12) — high operating density and low fault tolerance mean every early-years platform is read on its own.
- Against Burjeel (No. 57), which Gulf service should I choose?
- Burjeel's numbers are smoother (net profit +39.5%, no consolidation baggage); Taaleem's story is longer (utilisation headroom plus a school-place shortage). Both are listed operators: pick healthcare for current delivery, education for the longer runway — accepting its verification points. Placing the two side by side is exactly how this site prices "smooth" against "long".
